Though many people don't realize, park professionals know how much money, time, and resources go into the upkeep of a community's favorite parks. Since there are not unlimited funds to keep our parks up and running, funding opportunities are vital to add programming and maintain current operations.
We like to share these funding opportunities with you in our weekly Insights e-mails, but if you miss those, we have some current ones here to share with you. To help you find these opportunities, we have compiled a list of funding opportunities below:
Outdoor Recreational Grant Program
The National Park Service (NPS) sponsors the Outdoor Recreational Grant program through the Land & Water Conservation Fund. Grants are used to acquire land and plan and develop recreational areas such as playgrounds, tennis courts, outdoor swimming pools, hiking trails, picnic areas, campgrounds, and boat-launching ramps. Funds are also used to build restrooms, water systems, and other support facilities for the general public.
States, cities, counties, and park districts are eligible to apply for these grants. Funds are allocated as matching with state grants.
Lego Children's Fund
Lego aims to help local and national non-profit organizations committed to helping children develop their creativity and learning skills through constructive play. and it awards quarterly grants with special interest paid to collaborative efforts and in providing matching funds to leverage new dollars into the receiving organization. Typical awards are between $500-$5,000
AARP Community Challenge
If you're interested in improving your communities to make them more accessible for people of all ages, The AARP has the perfect funding opportunity for you. Apply for funds for “quick action” community projects to help improve the quality of life for the young and old!

PeopleForBikes Community Grant Program
Do you have an idea for a project dealing with bike paths, facilities, or parks? Earn up to 10,000 dollars in funding through this grant program and help your organization thrive and grow their biking, active transportation, and community development programs.

Community Facilities Technical Assistance and Training Grant
The United States Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications from rural communities who are looking to identify and plan for their community’s facility needs.
The money can be put towards planning a community facility, identifying other means of funding, or preparing reports. A maximum grant award of 150,000 will be awarded.

2018 Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards
The Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the 2018 Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards. Up to 15 grantees will be awarded $25,000 each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP [Your City] Music Series — an outdoor, free concert series featuring a diverse lineup of high-caliber entertainment for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy.
Online public voting determines the top 25 finalists. Click the button below to learn more. Grant applications are now open and due by October 2, 2017.
VW Settlement Mitigation
Due to a recent settlement with Volkswagon, states will have access to $2.7 billion to replace aging diesel engines and diesel-powered vehicles. Governmental entities can receive up to 100% funding to replace vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, or trucks, and private businesses can receive up to 75%.
