The Indiana Park and Recreation Foundation’s (IPRF) annual Dollars for Scholars Golf Outing, held on May 16, 2017, was another huge success! The charity tournament, held at Eagle Creek Golf Course, brought together over 75 participants from various organizations and companies who enjoyed relaxing day on the course while raising money and awareness for a great cause.

Making a Difference, One Stroke at a Time

It was a fun-filled afternoon for people as they not only played a round of golf at beautiful Eagle Creek, but also participated in several games and activities dispersed around the course. Whether it was driving a marshmallow off a tee, playing croquet, or participating in a putting contest there was an activity for seemingly everyone. Participants also had the opportunity to enter a raffle for a chance to win tickets to the qualifying race at the Indy 500, free rounds of golf at Purgatory, or a gift card to Harry & Izzy’s.

The tournament also gave people an opportunity to catch up with colleagues, network, and socialize throughout the day. Thanks to the beautiful weather the tournament ran smoothly and was a blast for people including Mr. Kinnamon, a Sales Representative for Norwalk Concrete Industries, who said, “The golf outing is a great way to meet people who are looking for ideas to improve their parks. What I enjoy most is golfing with our customers, it allows us to spend quality time with them, and have a few good laughs!”

The tournament winner was a team from the South Bend Parks Department. Tony Stearns, Nick Stetler, Tom Foster, and Dave Firestone all had an excellent day on the course as they drove, chipped, and putted their way to victory.

“As experts in the field we enjoy supporting this cause; helping fellow professionals with professional development and being a part of providing scholarships to students coming up in the field. A special part of the day is seeing everyone from across the state and recreating with them.” -President of IPRF and Deputy Director of South Bend Parks, Susan O'Connor

Of course, the tournament was all in the name of charity as the proceeds went to the IPRF which provides scholarships to students and professionals, as well as fostering and supporting research related to park and recreation. This year the IPRA raised over 12,000 dollars from the golf outing which will be put toward advancing and promoting park, recreation, and leisure services in the state of Indiana.
