Collectively we’ve experienced some very challenging times. We are suffering from depression, anxiety, hostility, and grief. But we were also given an opportunity to reflect on our values, circumstances, and purpose. We began to reconsider our relationship with work and our need and desire for recreation. And we discovered we need it more than ever! Recreation is literally an opportunity to re-create ourselves. We need time to play, frolic, explore, and renew. Individuals often report that they had no idea how stressed and anxious they were until they left an unfulfilling job. And even those that love their work, need to take a break. Creating space to learn, relax, and contemplate is a lost art, but essential for contentment.
